ASCHERMAN, ERNEST WILLIAM

Ernest William Ascherman, formerly of Ossining, died on September 12, 2008 in Blue Ridge, Georgia.  He is mourned by his wife Shirley, two sons, Ernest and Kurt, three step children and six grandchildren. A 1937 graduate of Ossining High and 1942 graduate of Syracuse University he spent 37 years in the Ossining School Systems, as a coach, teacher and administrator. Ascherman served as Assistant football coach under the legendary Jim Dilley, and head baseball coach at Ossining.  He retired as Principal of the Anne M. Dorner Middle School in 1975. His parents owned Ascherman˘s Bakery in Ossining.  His wife Vivian passed away in 1975.  A memorial service will be held at the small church behind Ossining High school on Wolden Rd. October 18 at 5pm. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions be sent to the Coach Ernest Ascherman Scholarship Fund and sent to Coach Dan Ricci at the Ossining High School Athletic Department.

 

RODRIGUEZ, ANNA

Anna Rodriguez of Ossining died peacefully on September 26th at home, she was 93. She is survived by her son Robert and wife Karen, daughter Annie, grandchildren Alice Anne & Kara Lynn, sisters Helen Costas & Grace Lee. CONNOLLY, DANIEL T.

Daniel Connolly of Pleasantville died suddenly on September 25th at home, he was 80. He was born January 4, 1928 to Peter and Anna Connolly. Daniel was a WWII veteran of the Air Force. He worked for many years at the Rockefeller Estate as an Ornamental Horticulturist. He is survived by his wife Catherine, daughter Christina, nephews Peter & Kevin Connolly, James, John & Ricky Vallarelli, Malcolm MacDougal, niece Bonnie Scappaticci. Daniel was pre-deceased by his brothers Peter, Robert “Murph”, sisters Mary and Anne. He will be reposing Sunday 2-5PM at Leach & Thomas, Inc. GILBERT, ANNIE K.

Annie K. Gilbert of Ossining died September 18, 2008, she was 68. She was born February 28, 1940 in Dougherty County, Georgia to George and Fannie Mae Gilbert. Annie worked for many years at Bethel Nursing Home in Ossining. She is survived by her sons Gregory Gilbert of Peekskill, Billy “Tance” Gilbert of Pennsylvania, Angela Lediard of Ossining, Ramona Andrews of Ossining, sisters Delorse Miller of New Jersey, Fannie Williams of Philadelphia, and grandchildren Gregory Jr., Imani, Anthony, Amarie, Odyssey and Kaleyah. EICKS, JOHN L.
John L. Eicks of Montrose died September 12, 2008, he was 84. He was born December 15, 1923 in Brooklyn. John served in the US Army during WWII and Korea. He worked as a cook for many years. There will be no visiting hours. John will be buried Monday September 15th at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, Long Island.

Michael De Rocco of Lake land, Florida, formerly of Asinine, died suddenly on September 8, 2008, he was 42. He was born May 12, 1966. Dorothy Vivian Smith of Ossining died July 22, 2008, she was 93. She was born October 10, 1914 to Leslie and Edith Smith. Dorothy worked for Empire City Savings Bank in NYC for 30 years. She is survived by her daughter Linda Moore of Scottsdale, AZ, nephew James (Virginia) Smith, great-nephew Kenneth (Grace) Smith, great-niece Kimberly (Aaron) Caldwell and their children. The Honorable Charles LaMonte Brieant Jr. of Ossining died July 21, 2008, he was 85. He was born in Ossining March 13, 1923 to Dr. Charles LaMonte Brieant and Marjorie Hall. He is survived by his wife Virginia, son Charles III, daughters Cynthia Hendricks, Victoria Misuraca, Julia Clavette, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Anthony Joseph Falzone of Ossining died suddenly on July 15, 2008, he was 58. He was born Dec. 10, 1949 in NYC to Sebastian & Joan Falzone. Anthony worked as an installer for Lucent Technologies in NYC retiring a few years ago. He is survived by his wife Sandra, son Joseph, mother Joan, brothers Gaspar, Michael and sister Diane. SLOCUM, SALLY GRAHAM

Sally Graham Slocum of Ossining died peacefully July 14, 2008 , she was 98. She was born April 1, 1910 in Warrenton, Virginia to Herbert and Sallie Sherman Graham. Sally graduated from DeSales Heights Academy in Parkersburg, W. Virginia in 1930. She married George Q. Slocum April 4, 1944 . Sally was pre-deceased by her brother Herbert (Bob) Graham. She is survived by her loving husband George and numerous nieces & nephews. Her funeral arrangements were handled privately by Leach & Thomas, Inc.

 
CATERINO, MARY GRACE
Mary Caterino  formerly of Ossining died after a short illness on June 19, 2008 in Hopewell Junction, surrounded by her family. She was born in Ossining Aug. 23, 1931 to William Henry Leonard and Edith Jones. Mary and her husband Thomas Caterino raised their family in Ossining and retired to Englewood, Florida a few years ago.  Mary was homemaker and known as a great cook and baker.  She took great joy in her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grand children.  She is survived by her husband, sons Thomas (Hillary), Michael (Joyce); daughters Margaret (John) Greenan, Theresa Caterino, Karen Montanaro, 8 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sisters Sylvia Finger and Edith DeFrancesco. She was pre-deceased by her brother William Henry Leonard Jr. and sister Theresa Cibo. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday 10AM at St. Ann˘s Church in Ossining. Ramona Aviles of Cortlandt Manor died June 18, 2008. she was 90. She was born February 14, 1918 in Lares Puerto Rico to Demensio and Emilia Rivera Aviles. Ramona worked as a seamstress for various factories in New Jersey as well as earlier in Puerto Rico. She is survived by her sons Valentin Aviles, Tomas Lopez, Alcides Aviles, Jose Rosado, daughters Maria Lopez, Mariam Rivera, brothers Confesor Aviles, Henry Aviles, 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. BROPHY, RICHARD F.
Richard F. Brophy of Los Angeles CA, formerly of Sleepy Hollow, died May 28, 2008, he was 62. He was born May 31, 1945 to John & Frances (Buchner) Brophy. Richard was a Vietnam Veteran. He worked as an independent movie producer in Los Angeles. He is survived by his sons Gregory, Sean (Sandra), sisters Patricia Farrell (James), Debra Frondelli (Steve), Dejay Cohen (Brian) and 5 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
 
SALLUCCI, NICOLANGELO
Nicolangelo Sallucci of Ossining died May 28, 2008, he was 89. He was born June 26, 1918 in Sassinoro Italy to Michele and Domenicangela (Conte) Sallucci. Mr. Sallucci worked for the NYSDOT for many years. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He is survived by his daughter Angela Conte and husband Jerry, daughter-in-law Janet Sallucci, grandchildren Adriana & Nicholas Sallucci. He was pre-deceased by his wife Arcangela and son Michele and sisters Vincenza Picucci & Antonia Ciervo. He will be reposing Fri. 2-4 & 7-9PM. KORR, IVY W.
Ivy W. Korr of Ossining died May 17, 2008, she was 86.  She was born in Ossining May 9, 1922 to Charles & Martha (Pichen) Crowne. Ivy worked for Cambridge Inst. Co. and also at Brookside School as the lunch program manager. She was a member of Trinity Church. Ivy is survived by her sons Charles, Robert, Richard, Thomas, grandchildren Amanda, Janet, Jillian and sister Jennette Moeller. She was pre-deceased by her son John who died in 1987. A Requiem Mass will be held Tuesday 11AM at Trinity Church, Rev. Canon Charles Pridemore officiating.
SEDLMAYER, RALPH G. Sr.
Ralph G. Sedlmayer Sr. of Ossining died May 17, 2008 after a long battle with emphysema, he was 73. He was in born in Norwalk CT on March 19, 1935 to Ralph & Florence (Cackowski) Sedlmayer. Ralph served in the US Navy aboard a Destroyer during the Korean Conflict and belonged to the “Tin Can Sailors”. Ralph owned and managed several Service Stations on S. Highland Ave. during the 60’s and also worked for many years for W. H. Jackson Auto Sales, Dell Buick and Croton Dodge. He was a tropical fish enthusiast and owned S&S Aquarium Foods during the 80’s. Ralph also helped at the Village Pharmacy, enjoying the friendship of his co-workers and the community. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church, a member of the American Legion Post 506 and the Loyal Order of Moose. Ralph is survived by his beloved wife Rosemarie, loving children Kathi (Hank) Grossman, Ralph (April), James, Carole, adored grandchildren Danay, Amanda (Keith), Alison, Ralph, Jesse, Stephanie, Danielle, Brandi, Zachary, Jake, cherished great-grandchildren Jayda-Starr, Tyler and Hailey. HERRMANN, WILLIAM LOUIS JR.
William L. Herrmann Jr. of Briarcliff Manor died suddenly on April 7th at his home in Delray Beach, FL. He was born December 17, 1924 in NYC to William and May Arnold Herrmann. William served in the US Army during WWII achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for Con Edison for over 30 years as a General Foreman. He is survived by his wife Alice of Delray Beach, son William III (Gail) of  Delray Beach, daughter Lorraine (Robert) Sesti of Briarcliff, grandchildren William IV, Matthew (Marilia), Kristen (Scott), Lauren (John) and great-granddaughter Nicole. Susan (Tussel) Shallo of Hopewell Jct. died April 1, 2008 after a battle with cancer, she was 54. She was born in Ossining Jan. 3, 1954 to Raymond and Susan (DiCioccio) Tussel. Susan graduated from Newberry Jr. College and Berkley University. She worked for the Dover School District for many years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. John Rico of Ossining died March 10, 2008, he was 96. He was born April 23, 1911 in Popoli, Italy to Antonio and Erminia Rico. John married Maria Puccilli on April 6, 1935; she died March 1, 2000. He was a veteran of the Italian Army. John worked as a mason for many years and was a member of the bricklayers union. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. John was an honorary member of the Columbus Lodge. John is survived by his son Anthony of Ossining, daughter Irma DiCioccio of Ossining, grandson Joseph DiCioccio and wife Deborah of Montrose and great-grandson Joseph Jr. He will be reposing Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9PM. Dorothy E. Juliano of Ossining died March 5, 2008 at home, she was 88. She was born August 13, 1919 in Peekskill to John and Rachel Smalley. Dorothy married Raymond Juliano September 14, 1941. She worked for the Ossining Board of Education for many years. Dorothy was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. She is survived by her husband Raymond, daughters Linda (Walter) Tensel, Donna (George) Henry, sister Bernice Brewer, grandchildren Deborah, Scott, Dawn, Kristin, Mark and 8 great-grandchildren. She will be reposing Friday 2-4 & 7-9PM at Leach & Thomas, Inc. Funeral Home 32 State St. Ossining. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 10AM St. Ann’s Church, burial St. Augustine’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Phelps Hospice appreciated.
 
ROTINDO, ALBERT M.
Albert M. Rotindo, formerly of Ossining, died peacefully after a long and valiant battle with cancer, he was 85. Al met his disease as he did all things in his life, with a great deal of courage, integrity and humor. Al and wife Hilda (Chiulli) moved to Port St. Lucie FL in 1987. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII. Al worked for General Electric in Ossining for many years. He is survived by his wife Hilda of Port St. Lucie, sons Michael and wife Cindy Teeple of Kent Lakes, Albert and wife Patricia of Croton, brother Dominick and wife Jennie of Port St. Lucie, brother-in-law Mario Chiulli and wife Ida Mae of Port St. Lucie, good friends George and Donna Watson of Port St. Lucie and Mario DiDomizio of Ossining, granddaughter Brianne and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, sister Antoinette (Nettie) Gavin and brother Philip. He will be reposing Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9PM at Leach & Thomas, Inc. Funeral Home 32 State Street Ossining, NY 10562. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday 10AM at St. Ann’s Church, burial St. Augustine’s Cemetery.
